Description

Soft Maple Cookies With Icing are tender, bakery-style cookies made with pure maple syrup and topped with a rich maple glaze. These soft, flavorful cookies are perfect for fall baking, holiday cookie trays, or whenever you’re craving a sweet maple treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.25 cups (270g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (100g) dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup (Grade A dark preferred)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract (or 1/2 tsp maple extract)
  • 1.5 cups (180g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tbsp (45ml) pure maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract, then mix until fully combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until a soft dough forms.
  5. Cover and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop 1½-tablespoon portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are set and the centers remain soft.
  9. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, heavy cream or milk, and salt until smooth, then spread or drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies and let it set before serving.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps create thick, soft cookies. Allow the cookies to cool completely before glazing so the maple icing sets with a smooth finish.
