Description
A festive roast chicken glazed with honey or silan (date syrup), roasted with apples, onions, and garlic for a sweet-savory holiday centerpiece.

- 1 whole chicken (4–5 lbs), patted dry
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp honey (or 3 tbsp silan/date syrup)
- 2 apples, sliced into wedges
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed
- ½ cup chicken broth or apple cider
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp rosemary
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set to 375°F (190°C).
- Season chicken: Rub chicken with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and rosemary.
- Prepare glaze: Mix honey (or date syrup) with Dijon mustard.
- Arrange pan: Place onion, garlic, and apple wedges in roasting pan. Set chicken on top. Pour broth or apple cider around.
- Roast: Bake uncovered for 1 hour 15 minutes (or until chicken reaches 165°F internal temp).
- Glaze: Brush glaze onto chicken during the last 20 minutes of roasting.
- Rest & serve: Let rest 10–15 minutes before carving. Serve with roasted apples and pan juices.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate chicken with olive oil, spices, and garlic overnight before roasting. Both honey and silan (date syrup) give a holiday-worthy sweet finish.
