Description

All the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak packed into a juicy, cheesy meatloaf! Filled with provolone, peppers, and onions, this comfort dish is an irresistible twist on a classic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • lbs ground beef (85/15 blend)
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Topping (optional but amazing): 3 slices provolone cheese, ¼ cup caramelized onions and peppers
  • 💡 Tip: For richer flavor, mix half ground beef and half ground chuck or sirloin.

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté onion and green pepper for 4–5 minutes until soft and fragrant. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix the Meatloaf: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sautéed vegetables. Mix gently — don’t overwork the meat.
  4. Add the Cheese: Fold shredded provolone throughout the mixture for melty cheese pockets.
  5. Shape & Bake: Form into a loaf shape and place in the prepared pan. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Top & Melt: Add provolone slices over the top and return to the oven for 3–5 minutes until melted. Garnish with caramelized onions and peppers before serving.

Notes

For an extra boost of Philly flavor, serve with toasted hoagie rolls or drizzle with cheese sauce. Leftovers make amazing sandwiches the next day!
