Description

These Masterclass Loaded Philly Cheesesteak Fries combine crispy waffle fries, tender seared steak, caramelized onions, sweet peppers, and layers of gooey melted cheese for the ultimate game-day snack, party appetizer, or indulgent comfort food meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 590g frozen waffle fries
  • 450g premium steak, sliced paper-thin (flank, rump, or sirloin)
  • 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 8 to 10 slices white American cheese, Provolone, or white melting Cheddar
  • Thinly sliced pickled jalapeños (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) fan-assisted.
  2. Spread the frozen waffle fries in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or according to package directions until deeply golden and crispy.
  4. While the fries cook, heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the sliced steak and season with garlic salt and black pepper.
  6. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until browned and slightly charred.
  7. Remove the steak and reserve 1 tablespoon of the cooking juices in the skillet.
  8. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper to the skillet.
  9. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the onions are caramelized and the peppers are tender-crisp.
  10. Remove and set aside with the steak.
  11. Arrange half of the hot waffle fries in the skillet or baking dish.
  12. Layer 4 slices of cheese over the fries.
  13. Top with half of the steak and vegetable mixture.
  14. Repeat with the remaining fries, steak, vegetables, and cheese.
  15. Add pickled jalapeños if desired.
  16. Return the skillet to the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  17. For extra color, broil for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly browned.
  18. Serve immediately while hot and cheesy.

Notes

For the best texture, make sure the fries are extra crispy before layering. Using thinly sliced steak ensures quick cooking and authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor. Serve immediately to preserve the crispy fries beneath the melted cheese.
