These Copycat Original Glazed Kreme Filled Doughnuts feature a soft, pillowy yeast dough, a sweet vanilla glaze, and a fluffy marshmallow cream filling that tastes just like the iconic bakery favorite.

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • â…“ cup warm whole milk
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated white sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • Vegetable oil or shortening for deep frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • â…“ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp marshmallow fluff or marshmallow creme
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Whisk yeast into warm milk with a pinch of sugar and let stand for 5 to 7 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture and egg, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Add softened butter one tablespoon at a time and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Beat softened butter and shortening until smooth.
  7. Add powdered sugar, marshmallow fluff, vanilla extract, and heavy cream.
  8. Whip for 3 to 4 minutes until fluffy and transfer filling to a pastry bag fitted with a round tip.
  9. Roll dough to ½-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  10. Cut into 3-inch rounds and place on parchment paper squares.
  11. Cover lightly and let rise for 30 minutes until puffy.
  12. Heat oil to 190°C (375°F).
  13. Fry doughnuts for 1 to 1½ minutes per side until golden brown.
  14. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly.
  15. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  16. Dip warm doughnuts completely in glaze and allow excess to drip off.
  17. Let glaze set and harden.
  18. Poke a small hole in the side of each doughnut.
  19. Pipe the fluffy kreme filling into the center until doughnuts feel full and heavy.
  20. Serve fresh.

Notes

Maintain the oil temperature at 190°C (375°F) for evenly cooked doughnuts. Fill the doughnuts only after the glaze has fully set for the best bakery-style result.
