Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons natural cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon red gel food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
  • 1 egg yolk (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar.
  3. Add eggs and egg yolk, then mix in vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring.
  4. Stir until smooth and evenly red.
  5. In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
  7. For optional swirl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Pour brownie batter into the pan.
  9. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture on top and swirl with a knife.
  10. Bake for 28–32 minutes until center is slightly set.
  11. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

Do not overbake to keep brownies fudgy. The cream cheese swirl adds richness and a beautiful marbled effect.
