- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons natural cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon red gel food coloring
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 8 oz cream cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
- 1 egg yolk (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and egg yolk, then mix in vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring.
- Stir until smooth and evenly red.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
- For optional swirl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour brownie batter into the pan.
- Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese mixture on top and swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 28–32 minutes until center is slightly set.
- Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
Do not overbake to keep brownies fudgy. The cream cheese swirl adds richness and a beautiful marbled effect.
