Description

Ingredients
Scale
- (Makes 8 pastries)
For the Pastry
- 1 package puff pastry sheets (2 sheets, thawed)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 Tbsp water
For the Cream Cheese Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp lemon zest (optional, for brightness)
For the Vanilla Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 Tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Filling: Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth. Set aside — this will be your creamy danish filling.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares (8 total). Score a ½-inch border around each square without cutting through — this helps the pastry puff around the filling.
- Assemble the Danishes: Place squares on prepared baking sheets. Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of cream cheese filling into the center of each. Brush edges lightly with egg wash (1 egg + 1 Tbsp water).
- Bake: Bake 15–18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool slightly before glazing. 💡 Pro Tip: If you like fruit danishes, add a teaspoon of jam or pie filling before baking.
- Make the Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm pastries for a glossy finish.
Notes
For an extra touch, top with fresh fruit or a spoonful of jam before baking. These danishes are best enjoyed warm, fresh from the oven.
