Description

Flaky, golden puff pastry filled with a rich cream cheese center and drizzled with sweet vanilla glaze — an easy bakery-style treat made at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  • (Makes 8 pastries)

For the Pastry

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 Tbsp water

For the Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp lemon zest (optional, for brightness)

For the Vanilla Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 Tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Filling: Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth. Set aside — this will be your creamy danish filling.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares (8 total). Score a ½-inch border around each square without cutting through — this helps the pastry puff around the filling.
  4. Assemble the Danishes: Place squares on prepared baking sheets. Spoon about 1 ½ tablespoons of cream cheese filling into the center of each. Brush edges lightly with egg wash (1 egg + 1 Tbsp water).
  5. Bake: Bake 15–18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool slightly before glazing. 💡 Pro Tip: If you like fruit danishes, add a teaspoon of jam or pie filling before baking.
  6. Make the Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm pastries for a glossy finish.

Notes

For an extra touch, top with fresh fruit or a spoonful of jam before baking. These danishes are best enjoyed warm, fresh from the oven.
