- 3 cups shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed and squeezed dry
- 1 ½ cups diced cooked ham
- ½ cup green onions, sliced
- 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 6 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk or half-and-half
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the hash browns evenly across the bottom of the dish.
- Top with diced ham and sliced green onions.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper until smooth and slightly frothy.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole layers.
- Make sure the custard reaches all corners of the dish.
- Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes.
- Cook until the center is set and a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 5–10 minutes.
- Slice into squares and serve warm.
Notes
Squeezing excess moisture from the hash browns helps prevent a watery casserole. This dish can be assembled the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
