Description

This Cheddar Cheese Bread is soft, buttery, and loaded with gooey melted cheese in every bite. It’s perfect served warm with soups, stews, or simply with a pat of butter!


Ingredients

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Wet Ingredients
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1 large egg
    • 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter (plus more for brushing)
  • Cheese & Flavor
    • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
    • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional, for extra flavor)
    • 1 tbsp chopped chives or green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1 – Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Step 2 – Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Step 3 – Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Step 4 – Combine & Add Cheese: Pour wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined (do not overmix). Fold in shredded cheddar, Parmesan, and chives if using.
  5. Step 5 – Bake: Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top and sprinkle with extra cheese if desired. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Step 6 – Cool & Serve: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Brush with melted butter before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika to the batter. This bread stores well at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerated up to 5 days. Reheat slices in the oven for the best texture.
