Ingredients
Scale
- Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter (plus more for brushing)
- Cheese & Flavor
- 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 tbsp chopped chives or green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1 – Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Step 2 – Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder.
- Step 3 – Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
- Step 4 – Combine & Add Cheese: Pour wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined (do not overmix). Fold in shredded cheddar, Parmesan, and chives if using.
- Step 5 – Bake: Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top and sprinkle with extra cheese if desired. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Step 6 – Cool & Serve: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Brush with melted butter before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika to the batter. This bread stores well at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerated up to 5 days. Reheat slices in the oven for the best texture.
