Description

These Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Cookies combine creamy peanut butter and rich chocolate cookie dough in a beautiful marbled swirl, creating a soft, flavorful treat with chocolate chips in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • â…“ cup (80g) creamy commercial peanut butter (e.g., Skippy or Jif)
  • 3 tbsp (20g) Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp whole milk or heavy cream
  • â…“ cup (60g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Dough: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, light brown sugar, and granulated white sugar together until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until a soft dough forms.
  2. Divide and Flavor the Doughs: Divide the dough evenly into two separate bowls. Into one bowl, fold in the creamy peanut butter. Into the second bowl, fold in the cocoa powder, milk, and chocolate chips.
  3. Marble the Cookie Dough: Scoop small 1-tablespoon portions of each dough. Gently press one piece of peanut butter dough and one piece of chocolate dough together, twisting them once to create a swirled dough ball. Do not over-work the dough.
  4. Chill the Dough: Place the swirled dough balls on a plate and chill in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes. Chilling solidifies the fats, preventing the cookies from spreading too flat in the oven.
  5. Bake and Cool: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place dough balls 2 inches apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are set. Let cool on the baking sheet before serving.

Notes

Do not over-work the dough when creating the swirl. Chilling the swirled dough balls helps prevent the cookies from spreading too flat during baking.
