Description

This Garlic Chicken Sandwich is juicy, flavorful, and loaded with creamy homemade garlic aioli. Perfectly seasoned chicken is pan-seared, grilled, or made crispy, then layered on toasted buns with fresh toppings for a satisfying and easy sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

For the chicken

  • 2 large chicken breasts (or 4 thin cutlets)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon chili flakes

For the garlic aioli

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Sandwich build

  • 4 sandwich buns (brioche or potato buns)
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles or pickled onions
  • Optional cheese slices

Instructions

  1. Make the garlic aioli: Stir together mayonnaise, grated garlic, lemon juice, Dijon mustard (optional), salt, and pepper. Let it rest 5–10 minutes so the flavors develop.
  2. Season the chicken: Pat chicken dry and rub with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the chicken:
    • Pan-seared: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook chicken 3–5 minutes per side until cooked through.
    • Grilled: Grill over medium-high heat until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
    • Crispy option: Bread the chicken and fry or air fry until golden and cooked through.
  4. Toast the buns: Toast the cut sides of the buns in a skillet or toaster until lightly golden.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Spread garlic aioli on the bottom bun, add lettuce, chicken, cheese (optional), tomato, and pickles or pickled onions. Top with the upper bun and extra aioli if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add crispy bacon, avocado slices, or spicy honey drizzle. Lettuce helps protect the bun from moisture so the sandwich stays sturdy and not soggy.
