Description
These Sausage Crescent Rolls are loaded with savory breakfast sausage, melted cheddar cheese, and wrapped in flaky golden crescent dough. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or game day snacking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground breakfast sausage
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced (optional)
- 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough sheets
- 1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8 slices American cheese (optional substitute)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the sausage and diced onion for 6–8 minutes until browned and fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease on a paper towel-lined plate and allow the sausage to cool slightly.
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Line a baking dish or baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll the crescent dough sheets onto a work surface.
- If using standard crescent rolls, pinch all seams together to create solid rectangles.
- Spread shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the dough.
- Top with the cooked sausage mixture.
- Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into logs.
- Pinch the seams closed to seal.
- Slice each log into 2-inch rolls.
- Arrange the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
- Whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash.
- Brush the tops generously with the egg wash.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Be sure to drain the sausage well to prevent excess grease from making the dough soggy. These rolls are delicious served with maple syrup, honey mustard, or hot sauce.
