Description

This Stuffed Seafood Bread Bowl is a warm, creamy appetizer packed with shrimp, crab, melted cheeses, and savory seasoning. Baked inside a crusty sourdough loaf, the dip becomes rich and bubbly while the bread turns perfectly toasted for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1 cup lump crab meat
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Optional Add-Ins

  • Lobster meat
  • Scallops
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Hot sauce
  • Fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Cut a circle from the top of the sourdough loaf. Hollow out the inside, leaving about 1 inch of bread around the edges so the bowl stays sturdy. Save the removed bread pieces for dipping. Brush the inside with melted butter.
  3. Make the creamy base: In a large bowl, mix cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Add the seafood: Gently fold in chopped shrimp, crab meat, green onions, mozzarella cheese, and cheddar cheese.
  5. Fill the bread bowl: Spoon the seafood mixture into the hollowed bread loaf, filling generously so the mixture mounds slightly above the top.
  6. Bake: Place the stuffed bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes until the cheese melts and the filling becomes bubbly.
  7. Toast the bread pieces: Place the reserved bread chunks on the baking sheet and bake for about 5 minutes until golden.
  8. Serve: Remove the bread bowl from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Use the toasted bread pieces for dipping into the creamy seafood filling.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top before baking. This dish works great as a party appetizer or game-day dip and pairs perfectly with toasted bread cubes or crackers.
