Description
This German Chocolate Dump Cake layers pecan coconut frosting, German chocolate cake mix, chocolate chips, and butter into an irresistibly gooey dessert with rich caramelized edges and molten chocolate throughout.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (15 oz) pecan coconut frosting
- 1 box (15.25 oz) German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup unsalted butter, sliced paper-thin
- ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the pecan coconut frosting evenly across the bottom of the dish.
- Sprinkle the dry German chocolate cake mix evenly over the frosting layer.
- Do not stir the layers together.
- Scatter the chocolate chips evenly over the cake mix.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top if using.
- Arrange the thin slices of butter evenly across the entire surface.
- Cover as much of the cake mix as possible with the butter slices.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes.
- Bake until the edges are bubbling and the center is soft but set.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10–15 minutes.
- Serve warm on its own or with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Slice the butter as thinly as possible to ensure even coverage and proper baking. Letting the cake rest after baking allows the molten chocolate and caramelized frosting to thicken into the perfect scoopable texture.
