  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for frosting)

  8. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  9. Bake 22 to 28 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  10. Cool completely before frosting.
  11. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat until golden brown and nutty.
  12. Cool brown butter 10 to 15 minutes.
  13. Whisk in powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  14. Add milk or cream gradually until frosting is smooth and spreadable.

Notes

Do not overbake to keep bars soft and fudgy. Allow brown butter to cool slightly before mixing frosting for smooth texture.
